DULUTH, MN (KDAL) – The various races during Grandma’s Marathon weekend will impact driving in the area due to heavy traffic and a number of road closures.
Harbor Drive, behind the DECC, will close at 4 p-m Friday along with portions of Railroad Street for the William A. Irvin 5K that begins at 6 p-m.
Canal Park Drive from Railroad Street to Buchanan Street will close all day Friday for Grandma’s finish line setup.
On Saturday, Scenic Highway 61 from Duluth to Two Harbors will close to traffic at 4:15 a-m. London Road and Superior Street from 12th Avenue East to 5th Avenue West will be closed from 5:30 a-m to the end of the race.
I-35 through downtown Duluth will also be closed with marked detours until about 3:30 pm.
The only access to Park Point and Canal Park during the races Saturday will be on 5th Avenue West from Superior Street.
Motorists should be prepared to encounter high traffic volumes and temporary delays throughout the weekend with long delays in the Canal Park and DECC areas Friday evening and Saturday.
