DULUTH, MN (CBS-3) – A Duluth landmark turned blue Tuesday night, raising awareness about a deadly disease.
March is Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month and 175 landmarks across the country are going blue including the Enger Tower and Glensheen Mansion in Duluth.
According to Duluth colon cancer survivor Anna Dahlgren, there’s been a 35% drop in screenings in the last year, resulting in 19,000 undiagnosed cases.
The drop is partly due to people missing appointments during the COVID pandemic.
Dahlgren was diagnosed with colon cancer at 33 and said she wants people of all ages to know the signs so they can catch it early.
Symptoms include changes in bowel habits, blood in the stool, fatigue, and rapid changes in weight, but Dahlgren said sometimes there are no symptoms so screening is vital for early detection.
