ST. PAUL, MN (KDAL) โ The colder weather moving in will help but recent unseasonably mild weather and some rain has degraded ice conditions across Minnesota.
The DNR says there have been reports of fish houses and ATVโs falling through the ice in central parts of the state while the marginal ice conditions in the south has become open water.
Ice in areas farther north has deteriorated as well with several incidents reported in Upper Red Lake and Lake of the Woods in recent days.
A vehicle ban, first issued on Upper Red Lake on December 30th, has been extended until further notice.
If you plan on venturing out on the ice, the DNR has issued safety guidelines that includes wearing a life jacket or float coat, carrying an ice pick, rope and ice chisel, bringing along a cell phone and not going out alone.
