MORSE TOWNSHIP, MN (KDAL) – First responders and law enforcement were sent to Morse Township west of Ely on Friday night on reports of an ATV accident.
The accident occurred near the intersection of Grant McMahan Boulevard and the Gold Mine Road.
According to the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Department, the side by side ATV was being driven by a 17 year old female with a 20 year old female passenger.
While trying to make a U-turn in the road, the driver accidentally hit the gas pedal instead of the brake. The ATV left the roadway and hit a tree in the ditch.
The driver was not injured but the passenger sustained what is believed to be non life threatening injuries and was taken to a hospital.
Neither of the occupants were wearing helmets or seatbelts and authorities say speed was a contributing factor in the crash.
