DULUTH, MN (KDAL) – The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) will activate enhanced burning restrictions for Cook, Koochiching, Lake and northern St. Louis Counties on Monday.
Under the Class IV restrictions campfires or recreational fires are not allowed, no burning permits will be issued, fireworks may not be used outside of municipalities, prescribed burning on private land is prohibited and only gas or propane stoves may be used in the back-country or campsites.
Current forecasts call for erratic weather, shifting winds and potential damaging wind gusts and thunderstorms that will challenge firefighting efforts.
With little precipitation and above average temperatures, the fire danger is expected to remain high until the area receives substantial rainfall.
The burning restrictions will remain in place until lifted by the DNR commissioner.
