San Diego FC acquired midfielder Gabriel Pirani from D.C. United, both clubs announced on Thursday.
In exchange for the 24-year-old Brazilian, D.C. receives up to $1 million in general allocation money.
Pirani posted 14 goals and seven assists in 78 regular-season matches (51 starts) with the United from 2023-26. His best season was a 7-goal, 4-assist effort across 28 games (22 starts) in 2024.
Pirani lost his regular starting spot this season under new head coach Rene Weiler.
“Gabriel is a player we’ve followed closely and believe is a great fit for our group,” San Diego sporting director Tyler Heaps said. “His creativity, technical ability, and attacking qualities will strengthen our competition within the squad as we prepare for a busy second half of the season. We’re excited to welcome him and his family to San Diego FC.”
Pirani will occupy a U22 Initiative roster slot in San Diego, which is sending $350,000 in guaranteed GAM and up to $650,000 in conditional funds. The United will retain a sell-on percentage.
“We want to thank Gabriel for his contributions to the club since his arrival in 2023,” D.C. director of soccer operations Erkut Sogut said. “We wish him all the best in San Diego and in the next chapter of his career. This trade provides us with valuable resources and roster flexibility as we continue to build our squad for 2026 and beyond.”
